Priest in Charge:

    Fr. Neil Jamieson-Harvey

FrNeilBorn in Bexleyheath, north Kent on 8th January, 1944. I was educated as a boarder at Christ's College, Blackheath. The school had daily prayers in the chapel and the boarders attended Mass at All Saints Church on the Heath where I sang in the choir and served at the Altar. It was this experience which led me into the Christian faith.

After leaving school I had various jobs before settling into telecommunications in British Telecoms. I was seconded, and after one year, joined Cable and Wireless. In 1973 I was transferred to their overseas staff, working in Qatar and Bahrain in the Middle East and then the Turks and Caicos Islands in the Caribbean.

Although I was a worshipping member of the Church since I was 18, I only became active in Church ministry when I was on the island of Providenciales in the Turks and Caicos Islands. I became a lay reader and then appointed as catechist for the island. We had to share a priest with the island of South Caicos and he visited us once a month. It was the catechist who kept the services and ministry of the church going in between times. It was then that I realised that I had a vocation to the priest hood and was accepted by the Bishop of "Nassau and the Bahamas, including the Turks and Caicos Islands". I studied for the priesthood at Chichester Theological College and was ordained deacon in Providenciales in 1991 and priest in the Cathedral in Nassau one year later. I served as curate in the thriving parish of St. Matthew in Nassau, before being given the parish of St. John the Baptist on the island of Abaco, including the church of St. Martin, Sandy Point. The churches were 45 miles apart and in my early days there, the road joining the two villages was un-made.

In 1995 I returned to England and did a nine month curacy at St. Francis, Meir Heath, before moving to St. Michael and All Angels Cross Heath in 1996.

I have been married to Christine for 40+ years and we have three daughters, seven Granddaughters and one Grandson.

In my time I have played rugby, golf, squash and have fenced; acted and produced in amateur dramatics; rode horses in show jumping and cross country events; and raced sailing boats. In recent years I have been more sedentary, my main pastimes being the computer. I have a wide taste in music From Bach to Bob Dylan, from Mahler to Meat Loaf, from Palestrina to Presley!
