Mossley Estate

The Area

Mossley is a purpose built council estate developed during the late 1950's. Most dwellings remain council property although a considerable number are now privately owned. Many residents have lived on the estate since the initial development and, so, are now retired. Many of their children and grandchildren still live in the area and therefore, there is still very much a community spirit which is enhanced by three schools, the shops, community centre, 2 pubs and a Drop in Centre.

The Church

St. Thomas' is a dual purpose building dedicated in 1959. It comprises a hall with a narrower choir and semi-octagonal chancel. The choir is flanked by vestries and the south side by toilets, kitchen and stores. There is a stage at the west end of the hall and beyond this a meeting room. The main entrance is through a lobby at the centre of the south frontage on Cresswell Crescent.
