The Parish of Tividale :-

Tividale is situated on the edge of the Diocese in the Metropolitan Borough of Sandwell. Its neighbouring parishes to the south are in the Dioceses of Birmingham and Worcester. The 1991 census figures give a population of about 17,000 - but since then there has been a considerable amount of building, mainly flats and starter-homes. The housing mix is about 60% owner-occupied: 40% council rented.

The parish is situated between Birmingham and Dudley - only a mile or so from Junction 2 on the M5. Dudley castle and the Black Country Museum are also only a mile away. The open countryside can be reached within a ten minute drive.

The two churches in the Parish:-

The Parish Church of Saint Michael the Archangel
lies off the A 4033 about 150 yards east of Burnt Tree Island. The Victorian parish church was demolished about 12 years ago because of serious structural problems. A new church complex has been opened in the last 18 months at a cost of £320,000.

Holy Cross Church is situated in Ashleigh Road on the Grace Mary Estate on the south side of the A4123. It is about 1 mile SE of St.Michael to the east of Darby's Hill. It is a dual purpose building and dates from 1966. There is a house for an assistant priest attached to Holy Cross Church.

More details of the churches are given below and a map showing the position of the 2 churches can be seen by clicking here.

The present pattern of Sunday Worship includes a Solemn Parish Mass at the Parish Church, with a Sung Mass at Holy Cross. There is a Daily Mass and Offices are said together where possible. The liturgy is modern Catholic and the Three Year Lectionary is used.
